The media are not toys… they can be entrusted only to new artists, because they are art forms.

In these works, black hair was woven and arranged
in a hanging scroll and time-based installation
film, recreating a lyrical poem found
in the text of the Taoist Tradition. Using hair in this piece, the strands form into
the familiar flowing shapes of calligraphic characters,
held together by melted wax. In the
time-based installation, each character is released
into the river-- in the water, their frame
disappears, and the hair emerges as an amorphous
form.
The time based installation film features the characters slowly merging into the landscape. From afar, the oblique shapes are like words from a different time, age, or subconscious. They are historically rooted words, but become merely abstract choreography to the foreign eye who does not register the characters.
